User Tests

Is your platform clear and well designed? How do people behave on your site?

User testing allows you to observe, measure and adjust to ensure that what you offer perfectly matches the expectations of those for whom it is intended.

When should I have a test?

Testing is one thing. But at what stage of the project? Two moments are ideal for producing relevant tests and useful results. You can choose one, the other, or both versions, depending on your project and the desired follow-up.

Before development

When the architecture of the site is set, the design validated and the wireframes created.

We then test the site’s ergonomics (UX), to ensure that people understand how the site is organised and where to go to find what they’re looking for.

We check the clarity of the navigation, and can already gather feedback on the aesthetics (if it plays its role as a visual guide).

The test is then carried out on clickable prototypes.

After development

When everything has been integrated and tested, and there is text and images: just before the site goes live!

This is when we test the relevance of the tools we’ve put in place, the clarity of the labels (on buttons and titles, for example) and the overall consistency of the presentation and structure.

We test the accessibility of the platform to make the final adjustments before going live.

The test is then carried out on the site itself.

How does it work?

Qualitative study of behaviour

We observe how people use your platform. The test is carried out according to a well-established protocol confirmed in advance with you. One person at a time carries out the test. In compliance with data protection regulations, attitudes, verbatims and actions taken are recorded (audiovisual capture by us).

A representative panel

The test is carried out with a panel of people who are representative of your target audience (generally one person per category), because they are the ones we want to satisfy. Members of your team may be present during the test, for observation purposes (no intervention on their part).

A complete test

The test takes place according to a scenario established beforehand: the person is asked to carry out a certain number of defined tasks (book a ticket, contact a certain person, find a certain piece of information, fill in a certain form, etc.). They are observed performing all the tasks.

The tests are carried out on a computer (laptop or desktop) and on a mobile device (smartphone and/or tablet).

Learn from the comments

One or more people from your organisation can observe the test. This way, you can witness the reactions first-hand, and feed into the administration of your site afterwards!

Concrete improvements

Whether it takes place before or after development, the test results are analysed and translated into recommendations for subsequent adjustments. These are sorted and prioritised (to be dealt with immediately, in the medium term, nice to have for the long term).

The workshops are led by 2 members of the Spade team

They can take place in our premises (Brussels or Namur), in yours or in any other room hired for the occasion. Above all, it’s about having a space where you can see yourself, move around and interact.

Under certain constraints, user tests can be carried out remotely. However, for the best quality of the study (observation of non-verbal behaviour in particular), we recommend that they be carried out face-to-face.

A test session lasts around 30 minutes. Depending on the complexity of the site to be tested, we recommend carrying out between 5 and 10 sessions (1 session = 1 person).

Spade provides all the equipment needed for the recording and to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Numerous tests carried out, for more ergonomic sites!

And a proven effectiveness, as the participants testify: CPAS Evere, Opéra Royal de Wallonie Liège, …

Our new website allows us to be more in line with the new consumption habits of our public. An institution like the Opera Royal de Wallonie with artists from all over the world who are our first ambassadors, must offer a modern and visually “sexy” interface. It is an essential business card abroad.

Sophie Roman, Digital Manager

Testimonial from Opéra de Liège

We chose to work with Spade’s team to lead the reflection on a new digital communication strategy.  The agency offered us the opportunity to participate in 3 workshops called Shake!Shake!Shake! We particularly appreciated the methodology used during these workshops: creative, it allows a real exchange between our communication team and the agency. Starting from our own context, we have been able to work on our own needs while taking into account our available financial and human resources.
