Everything in its right place !

Such a project involves a number of skills:

  • Project management
  • Content strategy & copywriting
  • Data analysis & migration
  • Design
  • Frontend development
  • Backend development within a CMS solution (Content Management System)
  • User testing of a responsive web design

At Spade, our experience has taught us that every step in the process of creating a great website is equally important. Our qualified experts offer a diverse range of capabilities that meet the various needs of different stakeholders .

1
Prototyping your website as close as possible to the reality

On several projects we apply the "design in the browser" methodology, mainly for the User Experience step (UX Design). This allows us to build responsive prototypes we can test in many contexts and ensures a successful en result.

The desktop reality

The desktop version of a website is the most common context in which people envision their website. However, we recognise there are many screen sizes and propose adapted experiences for your users.

The mobile reality

The evolution of interconnectivity now means sitting on a park bench or standing in a metro, touching the screen, swiping from right to left. We proactively test the many situations where you will communicate with your target audience.

All the other realities

From a tablet on a desk to Smart TVs to video game consoles; our team is always keeping an eye on the possibilities for your website and how to best leverage your interaction.

2
Think style guide !

You already use a Brand Guide. Be familiar with the Style Guide.

What is it ?

Style guides provide information about the general layout of your website. Defining how much white space should surround a logo, which typefaces and colours a brand uses, along with the when and where it is appropriate to use them on buttons, links, panels,...

Benefit for the management

A style guide is a tool that will be used by every person involved in your project. It's a real reference for any discussion about scenarios to test, new content to add, new modules to develop, future evolutions. It makes project management more effective and ensures all visual communication is cohesive.

Benefit for the development

Style guidelines are a successful way of ensuring brand and code consistency. With the help of a style guide, the team in charge of the back-end development can respect the website layout work.

3
Frame your design integration

Also called "front-end development", this step is a crucial one. Following a strong methodology will allow the project to have deep foundations and ensure its sustainability.

Build or choose a framework

For every business environment, we always use a front-end framework, and are able to build one if required. We have knowledge of relevant tools, a strong skill set, and experience to be able to offer advice on your best options. For example, if your project is simple, there is no need to use a complex framework. Conversely light frameworks could quickly be restrictive.

Object oriented CSS

OOCSS is a methodology of writing reusable CSS (styles) that is fast, scalable and maintainable. It's especially effective on building larger websites. We are familiar with both SaSS & LESS pre-processing CSS systems.

4
Collaborate around the code

Code is often hard to maintain, especially when there are several people involved in project and not always at the same time. There are tools to help manage this.

Versioning system

We used Github to host and share our code. It's a powerful collaboration tool for code review and code management for both open source and private projects.

Tasks and documentation

We have our own project management system but can also work with Basecamp. The goal is to have a single accessible place to list tasks (bug fixes, evolutions, change requests...) and maintain accurate documentation around the project

5
Live test

Today when you publish a website you need to test it on a lot of devices.

Chicon Valley : the Open Device Lab

Spade is the proud host of the first Open Devices Lab in Brussels. People can come to our office and test websites and applications on more than 12 devices including a range of smartphones, tablets and computers.

Browsers compatibility

Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer. The variety of browsers can sometimes create compatibility issues. We continue to test your website on different browsers and propose solutions and ideas to deal with the progressive degradation on older versions.

Helen Tueni
